Business Unit Director Ruminants biopharma/Livestock Intelligence

About the role:

The Business Unit Director (BUD) leads the Ruminants / Livestock intelligence team in the implementation of the BU plan and the generation of revenues up to and exceeding target; liaises with key customers to ensure mutual business success and constantly maintains high customer centricity.


The BUD is experienced in working with and influencing business partners in the matrix environment. Is knowledgeable and practiced in all aspects of commercial planning, market knowledge, and implementation across the cluster. Is experienced in budget setting and management; is an acknowledged people leader and is a highly effective communicator who leads by example and is comfortable and agile in a complex business, regulatory and leadership environment, able to make rapid yet balanced decisions on key business issues.


This position has P&L responsibility for the respective Business Unit in your own market. You will have 8 direct reports (and 16 in total) and you report to the General Manager Animal Health Benelux.


The position can be in Belgium or The Netherlands. And the travel requirements are approximately 50% within the Benelux with other international travel as required.


  • Executes commercial plans and strategies including financial budgets across the product ranges in the BU. Maximizes performance (Sales volume, market share and profit) within broad guidelines established by AH Divisional, Regional VP, and General Manager Benelux.
  • Partners with Global and Regional leadership in the matrix structure, to ensure effective and timely product launches for the products within and across the cluster.
  • Builds and leads effective teams of commercial professionals, exploiting opportunities across geographic boundaries for product sales, technical support, and problem resolution.
  • Influences Regional level management in creating and delivering successful business plans and product strategies for the products. Builds effective and mutually beneficial relationships with key customers including key accounts and buying groups.
  • Participates in the creation of (and leads) the implementation of business plans across the cluster. Responsible for making rapid and disciplined operational decisions impacting on the livestock intelligence business and the Bio pharma business within the scope of the business plan.
  • Responsible for rapid operational problem resolution. You are the local point for customer-critical issues in the cluster that are related to product supply, pricing, and problem resolution.

Your Profile

  • Bachelor, Master’s Degree Science/ Veterinary Science/Business/Technology.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a senior line leadership position with substantial experience working in a highly matrix network and in a role with significant P&L responsibility.
  • Minimum 10 years of commercial experience in Pharma / Biotech industry but not necessarily entirely within Animal Health.
  • Dutch, French and English as a strong language with excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Ability to influence and manage in a matrix organization and across differing business, cultural and regulatory environments.
  • Proven strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and a change agent within the company.
  • Proven track-record in adherence to Company compliance policies and procedures.
  • Unquestionable ethics and integrity
